On the Whale’s Back | クジラの背中

Yakushima is home to several great spots for bouldering.

屋久島には、「ボルダリング」ができるスポットがいくつかあります。

During the “Senvus Education Mirai Project” program, we had the chance to go bouldering on a rock known as “Hakugei” (White Whale).

今回、『センバス教育みらいプロジェクト』のプログラムでは「白鯨」という岩でボルダリングをしました。

This massive rock, shaped like a whale washed ashore from the sea, has a beautifully smooth and striking white surface. It’s truly a unique and memorable place.

海から打ち上げられた大きなクジラのような岩で、真っ白な岩肌がとても綺麗です。

Bouldering is a sport where you find your own handholds and figure out how to move your body to reach the top. Through trial and error, you rely on your own strength and thinking to succeed. Because of this, it’s also gaining attention as a form of education that helps develop goal-setting and problem-solving skills.

手がかりを自分で見つけ、どのように体を動かして目標の場所まで登り切るか、試行錯誤しながら自分の力で登る「ボルダリング」というスポーツは、目標達成能力や課題解決能力を養う「教育の一環」としても注目されています。

When I finally made it to the top and stood on what felt like the whale’s back, the sense of accomplishment was incredible.

岩を登り切ってクジラの背中に上ると、達成感でとても気持ちがよかったです。
