Passion Flower (Passiflora) | パッションフラワー
Because of Yakushima’s subtropical weather, at Yakushima Senvus Village we are able to grow the Passion Fruit, a vine native to South America.
屋久島は亜熱帯性気候にあるため、屋久島センバスビレッジでは、南米原産である「パッションフルーツ」を栽培することができます。
The flower of the passion fruit is called Passion flower or Passiflora. The one we grow at Yakushima Senvus Village is the blue passion flower or passiflora caerulea, known in Japan as the “clock grass” flower, because it looks like the dial of a clock.
パッションフルーツの花である「パッションフラワー」は、花が時計の文字盤に似ているところから、日本では「時計草」と呼ばれています。屋久島センバスビレッジで育てているのは、青いパッションフラワーです。
Between April and May, we pollinate by hand the organically grown flowers, and between June and July we can harvest the fruit. The number of flowers determinate a good harvest.
無農薬栽培で育てた花を4月から5月にかけて手作業で授粉し、6月から7月が果実の収穫期です。
「パッションフルーツ」が豊作になるかどうかは、この花の数で決まります。
