What can I do at Yakushima SENVUS Village?

Yakushima SENVUS Village is a tourist farm with a focus on scent.
Visitors can spend a time of relaxation in rich greenery, strolling among herbs, mosses and Yakushima Island’s native plant species and have a cup of herb tea at a cafe with a spectacular view. The village also features a replica of Ranjatai, a piece of aromatic wood and an Imperial Property that represents Japan’s scent culture, and Scent Mill, a traditional-looking water mill with a diameter of eight meters.

What does “SENVUS” mean?

SENVUS is a Latin-derived coinage referring to “a tangible sense of living.”
The name represents our wish for our visitors to feel a tangible sense of living.

What are the opening hours of Yakushima SENVUS Village?

We are open on weekends between 10 am and 5 pm.
During the week, we open upon request from group visitors or for special events, provided reservation is made three or more days in advance.

How do I get to Yakushima SENVUS Village from Yakushima Airport?

You can take a car from Yakushima Airport, drive southward (toward Onoaida) on Prefectural Route 77 for about 45 minutes.You can take a local bus from the airport. Take a bus bound for Kurio-bashi (“栗生橋”) or Oko-no-taki (“大川の滝”) and get off at Koshima (“小島”). (takes about 55 minutes)

Are there signs / landmarks once I get close to the village?

If you are driving southward on Prefectural Route 77 down the east coast from either Miyanoura Port or from Yakushima Airport, the first landmark will be Yakushima Iwasaki Hotel (“屋久島いわさきホテル”). Drive past the hotel, and you will see signs for Father Sidotti Landing Monument and then a large sign that says “農家民宿 山ノ瀬” . Soon after that, the first sign for Yakushima Senvus Village itself appears, at which point you turn right, into a mountain road. Just follow the succeeding signs from there. After about five minutes of uphill drive, you will arrive at the village.

If you are taking the west coast route (Prefectural Route 78 aka Seibu Forest Path), drive south toward Hirauchi-kaichu Onsen Hot Spring (“平内海中温泉”). As a guide, it takes approximately 35 minutes by car from Oko-no-taki Falls on Route 78 to Yakushima Senvus Village. Drive past Hirauchi-kaichu Onsen Hot Spring and you will see signs for Father Sidotti Landing Monument and then a large sign that says “農家民宿 山ノ瀬” . Soon after that, the first sign for Yakushima Senvus Village itself appears, at which point you turn left, into a mountain road. Just follow the succeeding signs from there. After about five minutes of uphill driving, you will arrive at the village.

Is there parking space?

Yes, we have a free parking lot that can accommodate three buses (large-sized vehicles) and 24 passenger vehicles.
