Yaku-deer | ヤクシカ

Whether hiking through the forest, taking the Seibu-Rindo Forest path, or sometimes also close to towns, another animal you can find in Yakushima are deer.

屋久島では、森の中をハイキングしたり、「西武林道」を通ったり、時には町の近くにいるときに、シカに出会えるかもしれません。

These are called Yaku-deer (Yakusika – ヤクシカ), and are a subspecies of the Japanese deer, that can only be found in Yakushima and Kuchinoerabu-jima.

これは「ヤクシカ」と呼ばれ、屋久島と口永良部島だけに生息している、ニホンジカの亜種です。

Feeding the deer is prohibited in Yakushima, so if you encounter some during your travels, keep your distance, and enjoy watching them in their natural environment.

屋久島ではシカに餌を与えることは禁止されていますので、もし出会ったら、距離を置き、自然のままの姿を楽しみましょう。
