Yakushima specialty sweet: Kakaran-dango ｜屋久島の名物：かからん団子
“Kakaran-dango” is one of the local sweets you can find in Kagoshima region.
「かからん団子」は、鹿児島地方の郷土菓子のひとつです。
Yakushima’s “Kakaran-dango” is a rice dumpling (dango) mixed with Japanese mugwort, wrapped in “Smilax China” (also called Kakaran) leaves. The leaves are not edible, and the dango inside gets a dark green colour from the mugwort.
屋久島の「かからん団子」は、「ヨモギ」を混ぜたお団子を、「サルトリイバラ（別名「かからん」）」の葉で包んだものです。葉は食べられず、中のお団子はヨモギで濃い緑色になります。
“Kakaran-dango” is slightly sweet and really delicious!
